Two stars are making their Saturday Night Live debut. On Saturday, Nov. 15, Anyone but You and Chad Powers star Glen Powell is heading to Studio 8H — his very first time hosting the show after previously making a guest appearance on Sydney Sweeney’s March 2024 episode. The Season 51 SNL gig comes on the heels of his new film The Running Man, the latest adaptation of the 1982 Stephen King novel.
When the episode was announced back in October, Powell took to Instagram to write, “Spy Kids 3D finally paid off,” a reference to his first film appearance back in 2003. “Let's party, New York.”
Meanwhile, Olivia Dean — the singer-songwriter who released her second album The Art of Loving in September — is joining as the show’s musical guest, marking her first time appearing on the show. She shared her excitement on Instagram by reposting the show’s announcement with a single-tear emoji.
How Glen Powell and Olivia Dean have promoted their Saturday Night Live appearance
Powell appeared in a promo for his SNL debut where he danced through the halls of 30 Rock dressed in a gray suit with a white shirt and red tie — a look borrowed from Christopher Walken’s famous turn in Fatboy Slim’s “Weapon of Choice” music video from 2000.
In an interview with USA Today, Powell shared his excitement about the live, week-to-week nature of SNL. “In an era where everything is edited and curated, SNL is one of the last great performance things where they build this [show] every week and you see like all the costumes and the makeup and people creating these characters out of nothing and the rehearsal that goes into it, and it's all done in one week,” he explained.
Powell and Dean also appeared together in a series of promos alongside SNL cast members Bowen Yang and Marcello Hernández. In one video, the comedians teased the first timers about being “fresh fish” to the SNL stage. In a second, Hernández challenges the duo to a game of hide-and-seek — then immediately finds them. The third has Hernández and Yang announcing they are in a Freaky Friday situation and have swapped bodies.
Following Powell and Dean’s episode, SNL will take a break and air a rerun on Nov. 22.
